Russian senators have no grounds to speak of Google law disrespect

MOSCOW, Sep 11 (PRIME) -- The commission on state sovereignty protection of Russia’s Federation Council, the parliament’s upper house, has no information on violation by Google of laws, and the matter will be discussed by relevant authorities in detail on Thursday, the commission’s head Andrei Klimov said late on Monday.

“We’re monitoring the situation, and I’ve seen no breaches of requirements of laws of the Russian Federation by Google. I’ve got the impression that they’ve been behaving like a civilized company,” Klimov said.

Google could have misbehaved, but “since (authorities and the company) had a precise dialogue, I do not see huge deviations in activities of Google from our recommendations,” the senator said.

Klimov said he had just started getting reference information from ministries and entities, and the matter will be scrutinized at a meeting with experts on Thursday. “We should closely watch possible risks in the so-called gray zone,” he said.

Google earlier received letters from local authorities on inadmissibility of placing information about unsanctioned campaigns in Russia on the single elections day, held on September 9, on the company’s resources. The communications service said it is in constant dialogue with Google on the matter.
